Upgrading to a synthetic turf field would be a benefit for both the students and our community!

The Need

Resurfacing the Harding Stadum with synthetic turf

The multi-year renovation work on the stadium began back in 2011 with the installation of a new scoreboard.  In 2013, new visitor bleachers were installed.  In 2014, we replaced our old track with a new state-of-the-art 8-lane all-weather track.  We feel now is the time to complement the updates with a synthetic turf system that all Marion Harding sports and extracurricular programs could utilize.

Sythetic turf systems are installed at facilities ranging from the professional sports leagues to the municipal Pee Wee leagues in and around the area and state.  Athletic programs that require a field surface to accommodate multiple sports throughout the school year see the added value in a synthetic turf system.  A level and consistent surface provides a safe and resilient playing field which is beneficial to all young athletes.

The Use

Varsity, Junior Varsity, Freshmen  and Middle School teams can all use the synthetic turf filed without the threat of tearing up the field that occurs late in the season.

The turf field would be marked for soccer.  Therefore, soccer games could be played in the stadium.  We could even play occasional games under the lights!

Band typically practices at the high school, but does face the dilemma of muddy practice fields and darkness when practicing in the fall.  With the new turf we could host multiple band shows without concern for field damage.

The track is already complete.  But the new turf would allow supplemental workouts for the track teams on the infield once it’s installed

Middle & Elementary Schools

Everything from Grant Physical Education classes, Powder Puff football games, and elementary field days could make use of the track and turf on a regular basis.

Community Use

The facility would be available for the citizens of Marion.   Events hosted by the Y and the Relay for Life would benefit from the upgraded track and turf.
